Session Description: ACOEM leadership has developed an International Strategic Plan to address the common challenges, opportunities and strategic priorities that are emerging in the specialty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine around the world. ACOEM has the International Component Society of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ICSOEM) and an International Section. ACOEM is also one of the founding member societies of the International Occupational Medicine Society Collaborative (IOMSC) - which is comprised of 54 national occupational medicine societies from 48 countries representing 30,000+ OEM providers.

This session will:

• Consider the curated current Global OEM Challenges, Opportunities and Strategic Priorities from OEM leaders around the world Including:
-Presidents of the 54 national OEM societies that are members of IOMSC
-Members of the ACOEM ICSOEM and ACOEM International Section
• Review the priorities for global occupational health garnered from a May 2025 Geneva, Switzerland Thought Leadership Summit of chief health officers from multinational companies, workplace health leaders from academia, and leaders from international worker health organizations, including the WHO and the ILO.
• Convene a panel moderated by the ACOEM president comprised of a few distinguished leaders of international organizations that will provide brief presentations and reflect on the priorities identified prior to and during the AOHC session.
• Engage the attendees (both in person and virtually) in an interactive discussion regarding their responses to the shared Global OEM Challenges, Opportunities and Priorities.

Educational Gaps : This session will explore how to strengthen the impact and effectiveness of addressing global occupational health issues through collaborative work with international occupational medicine societies, other key international organizations and ACOEM leaders and members. It will consider a framework for a more unified, international approach to improving worker health.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the collaborative role played by international organizations (e.g. International Labor Organization [ILO], International Commission on Occupational Health [ICOH], International Occupational Medicine Collaborative ([IOMSC], etc.) in responding to the identified Global OEM challenges, opportunities and priorities.
  • Recognize the contributions made by ACOEM and its members to address these challenges and how these can benefit ACOEM and its members.
