Session Description: This session highlights the collaboration of Work Health Without Borders (WHWB) and the International Occupational Medicine Society Collaborative (IOMSC) in bringing global perspectives to emerging worker health challenges. This fast-paced session pairs short video vignettes from the field—including a Sri Lankan researcher confronting chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) and an occupational physician supporting artisanal miners in the Democratic Republic of Congo—with concise didactic segments on CKDu and the re-emergence of silicosis in mining and engineered stone fabrication. Designed to spark curiosity rather than provide deep dives, the program underscores how global partnerships accelerate solutions and invites participants to engage with WHWB–IOMSC initiatives that advance worker health across borders and disciplines.

Educational Gaps: Many occupational physicians focus on local practice and may overlook global OSH challenges and partnerships. This session bridges that gap, showing how WHWB–IOMSC initiatives address emerging risks abroad, and why awareness matters as global companies expand and clinicians learn from shared experiences worldwide.

The AOHC 2026 theme is Healthy workers. Healthy world: Our session embodies Healthy workers. Healthy world by highlighting how occupational health challenges transcend borders and how solutions require shared knowledge. Through the partnership of WHWB and IOMSC, participants will see how kidney disease in Sri Lankan farmers, risks among artisanal miners in the DRC, and the global resurgence of silicosis all illustrate the interconnectedness of worker health. By learning from these global stories, occupational physicians can broaden their perspective, strengthen their practice at home, and contribute to healthier workers everywhere.
