Professor Janvier Gasana is a highly accomplished, triple-qualified expert in Environmental/Occupational Health and Safety, holding an MD, MPH, and PhD in EOH Sciences/Medicine/Epidemiology. He is the Founder and CEO of the Global Applied Prevention Center Inc. (GAPCI), dedicated to promoting healthspan and safety worldwide through primordial prevention, particularly for underserved populations and workers.
His extensive academic and professional career showcases significant leadership and international impact. Prof. Gasana began his journey studying and practicing medicine in Rwanda before earning his master’s and PhD in EOH from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He single-handedly established the EOH department during his 20-year tenure at Florida International University (FIU) and served as the founding EOH department chair and MPH program director at Kuwait University.
Prof. Gasana's research is practical and far-reaching, including studies on childhood lead poisoning in Miami and Kuwait, asthma triggers, and occupational safety workshops. His expertise is sought globally, evidenced by his consulting work with major international bodies: he developed an Occupational & Environmental Medicine syllabus for Qatar through WHO, advised the World Bank and UK (United Kingdom) DFID on mining projects in DR Congo, and consulted for USAID on waterborne diseases in Ethiopia and OSH (Occupational Safety and Health) in Haiti.
He maintains active membership and leadership roles in prominent organizations, serving on scientific committees for the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), as the Education Development & Training Chair for Medichem (an ICOH affiliate focused on chemical exposure prevention), and as an ACOEM member. Demonstrating a deep personal commitment, Prof. Gasana practices a daily whole-body workout, successfully reducing his biological age by 10 years.
On December 12, 2025, he received (in absentia) Special Mention for Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Occupational Health (OH) Globally 2025 during the 2025 UK SOM (Society of Occupational Medicine) OH Awards’ ceremony.
