Session Description: In the Training of Trainers (ToT) model, multiple trainers are teaching the same course. This creates a
broader reach, sustainability, and is much more cost- and time-efficient. A new trainer watches an
experienced trainer teach, completes the exercises, and practices teaching segments to others. The
master trainer and trainer participants are advised to use the CDC Professional Development (PD)
best practices.
The ToT program will combine onsite and online training through Moodle (for discussion
forums/tests) integrated into MS Teams (for uploading teaching materials/live lectures) to equip
general practitioners in the Global South with expertise in OEM. This hybrid approach enables
participants to develop training skills, access resources, and collaborate with peers, ensuring a
multiplier effect in expanding OEM expertise among healthcare professionals. This has been used
and/or is in the process of being used in the Middle East and Africa before reaching out to other
areas of the globe.

Educational Gaps: Currently not enough clinicians in the Global South with OEM expertise. This educational model aims to close these gaps so general practitioners can do OEM work.

The AOHC 2026 theme is Healthy workers. Healthy world: This ToT approach will create a ripple effect, enabling participants to train other healthcare professionals and ultimately strengthening healthcare systems in the Global South.

  • Improve knowledge and understanding of OEM principles and practices among general practitioners and primary health care doctors.
  • Develop training skills to enable participants to design and deliver effective OEM training programs.
  • Enhance capacity of healthcare systems in the Global South to address occupational and environmental health issues.
