Session Description: Attend this session to learn about becoming and staying certified in Occupational and Environmental Medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM). In January 2025, the ABPM launched the second phase of its new Continuing Certification Program which includes longitudinal assessment. This is a flexible, relevant alternative to the former, traditional MOC exam. Learn about the new Continuing Certification Program in addition to outlining what physicians need to know to become certified for the first time.
Educational Gaps: 1. Physicians need to understand the pathways ABPM offers to become certified in OEM. 2. ABPM-certified physicians are now required to participate in ABPM's Continuing Certification Program, including longitudinal assessment. They need to know what is required and how to accomplish those requirements. 3. Physicians need to know how to get help from ABPM on both initial and continuing certification.
Is this session being sponsored by an ACOEM Section or Component?: No
Has this session previously been presented?: Yes, this session has been presented for many years.
The AOHC 2026 theme is Healthy workers. Healthy world: OEM physicians who achieve ABPM certification demonstrate their special OEM knowledge and skills; those that participate in ABPM's Continuing Certification Program demonstrate their dedication to lifelong learning and improvement. These certified OEM physicians provide a higher level of care for the patients and populations they serve, resulting in healthier workers and workplaces.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the overall elements of ABPM's Continuing Certification Program (CCP).
Demonstrate understanding of ABPM's Longitudinal Assessment Program.
Outline the requirements for initial certification in Occupational and Environmental Medicine through ABPM.
