Matthew Aiken, MD is a resident physician in the Occupational and Environmental Residency Program at the University of Utah. He is concurrently pursuing a Master of Occupational Health and planning to develop a career at the intersection of clinical occupational medicine, corporate medicine, and workforce health leadership.
Dr. Aiken earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he participated in the Bioethics and Medical Humanities pathway and developed a strong interest in the systems-level factors that influence health and wellbeing. He completed an internship in anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin before transitioning to occupational and environmental medicine.
His current scholarly work focuses on low back pain prevention and the identification of modifiable factors that promote pain-free days among working populations. Dr. Aiken has authored peer-reviewed publications and presented research and clinical case reports at national meetings including the Society of Hospital Medicine, the American College of Physicians, and the Western Occupational Health Conference.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Aiken enjoys playing the piano, outdoor adventure, and cheering on the Utah Utes.
