Craig D. Thorne, MD, MPH, MBA, FACP, FACOEM

Cleveland Clinic

Dr. Craig Thorne is a nationally recognized physician leader with over 25 years of experience in integrated employee health, safety, and well-being programs.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic in 2023, he served Yale New Haven Health’s Occupational Medicine and Wellness Services as Chief Medical Director. From February 2018, he served as V.P./Medical Director, Employee Health and Well-Being for Erickson Living. Under Dr. Thorne’s leadership, Erickson Living was the 2016 recipient of the ACOEM Corporate Health Achievement Award. Prior to joining Erickson Living, he directed clinical care, conducted research, and lectured at the U. of Maryland School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and served as the Medical Director, Employee Health, and Safety at the U, of Maryland Medical Center from 2001-2007. From 1997-2001, he was the Medical Director of the Police and Fire Clinic (PFC Associates) in Washington, D.C. where he provided and directed clinical care, medical surveillance and preventive services for Police Officers and Fire Fighters/EMTs, including the U.S. Secret Service.

Dr. Thorne is a U.S. citizen who was born in Canada and received the Bachelor of Medical Science degree and M.D. in 1990 from Memorial U,. of Newfoundland, followed by the Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree from the Johns Hopkins U. School of Hygiene and Public Health in Baltimore in 1995. He then completed fellowship training and the Chief Residency in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the Johns Hopkins U. School of Medicine in 1997. He completed Internal Medicine training and the Chief Residency at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. in 1995. He received an M.B.A. degree in Medical Services Management from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School in Baltimore in 2013. He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine (re-certified in 2016) and Preventive Medicine (with a focus in Occupational and Environmental Medicine).
