Scarlet R. Spain, DNP, MPH, APRN, CNS, FNP-BC is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with specialized expertise in occupational and environmental medicine. She has held leadership roles in both management and wellness and has contributed extensively to research, education, and policy development in her tenure.
Dr. Spain currently serves as the Director of DNP Programs, FNP Program Director, and Assistant Professor at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. She also practices as a nurse practitioner in various occupational health settings and works as an occupational health consultant. In her consulting roles, she provides guidance on building healthy workplaces, defining the scope of practice for advanced practice providers, and advising on international occupational safety standards. Her current research focuses on preventing back pain and workplace injuries. She is particularly passionate about maintaining safe work environments.
Dr. Spain has received numerous awards for her contributions to occupational and environmental medicine. She has been recognized by the American Public Health Association as a Public Health Nursing Scholar. Her scholarly works appears in The Nurse Practitioner, the Journal of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialist, The Journal for Advanced Nursing Practice and she has authored several textbook chapters. She has also served as Editor-in-Chief for a professional publication and is a recognized public speaker.
