Adjunct professor of public health; adjunct research professor – landscape architecture

Dr. Harber is an Adjunct Professor of Public Health and adjunct research professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Arizona, His research projects concerns respirators, occupational epidemiology, and computer applications. He practices occupational-environmental medicine and pulmonary/internal medicine. He is also emeritus professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he has been a Professor of Medicine and Family Medicine, chief of the Division of Occupational-Environmental Medicine, and director of residency training in occupational-environmental medicine. Dr. Harber was a member and vice-chair of the Accreditation Council for Medical Education (ACGME) committee for preventive medicine, including occupational medicine. He has lectured widely in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Egypt, and Hong Kong.
He has published several hundred research reports and edited or wrote chapters for several books (including textbook of occupational-environmental respiratory disease, recent book about occupational health for the higher education and research industry; Dr. Harber and Dr. McLellan have co-authored The Guide to the Medical Evaluation for Respirator Use (2nd edition).
He was a member and chair of the CDC/NIOSH Study Section (IRG) focused on occupational health and safety. He served in other governmental and professional organizations such as the Institute of Medicine (NAM), CDC, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, International Standards Organization, EPA, and others. He served in leadership roles in several national and regional professional organizations, including the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) Board of Directors.
He received a BS from Muhlenberg College and an MD from the University of Pennsylvania. He received an MPH degree from Johns Hopkins University and completed fellowships in pulmonary and occupational-environmental medicine at Johns Hopkins. He is a fellow of ACOEM, American Thoracic Society, and American College of Chest Physicians. He received the ACOEM Lifetime Achievement award.
