Dr. Rubin is Senior Medical Officer at Cook County Department of Public Health where amongst her other responsibilities she oversees the agency's Healthy Work Initiative.
Dr. Rachel Rubin is a practicing physician specializing in Internal Medicine and Occupational Medicine and Public Health. She has worked for the Cook County Health and Hospitals System for most of the last 40 years and has served in various leadership roles in the organization. She moved into her Senior Medical Officer position with the Cook County Department of Public Health in 2014 co-leading the COVID-19 respond in suburban Cook County. She serves on the Cook County Environmental Justice Working Group. She also is an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Public Health, teaching on the social and structural determinants of health and the fundamentals of public health practice, and mentoring students.
She worked in Mozambique for two years as a Public Health specialist and District Medical Chief and is Chair of the International Health Section of the American Public Health Association. She also is the immediate Past Chair of the Chemical Safety Committee of ACGIH (American Conference of Governmental industrial Hygienists).
