Kristen Slater, PsyD, MA, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. She specializes in evidence-based behavioral interventions for individuals with chronic pain, with a focus on helping patients enhance quality of life, clarify values, and reduce psychological distress.
Dr. Slater completed her fellowship in pain psychology at Stanford in 2014 and went on to direct behavioral medicine services at a large interdisciplinary pain clinic in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she developed curricula for a Functional Restoration Program. Since returning to Stanford in 2019, she has provided clinical services within a tertiary pain clinic and serves as a primary and secondary supervisor to doctoral pain psychology fellows.
Her research portfolio includes serving as co-investigator and lead clinician on NIH- and PCORI-funded trials, including studies of Empowered Relief, a single-session intervention for pain. She is also a master faculty instructor for Empowered Relief clinician certification workshops, training providers internationally in innovative pain psychology approaches.
