Michael Spertus, MD, FAAFP, is a board-certified physician in Family Medicine, Integrative Medicine, and Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Spertus went to medical school at the University of Miami and then completed his residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University and his fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the Institute for Family Medicine-Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine in New York City. He also completed fellowships in Health Professional Education and Primary Care Psychiatry. He has done extensive additional training in leadership and systems, professional coaching, yoga (RYT200), medical acupuncture, mindfulness-based interventions, psychotherapy, and clinical hypnosis.
Previously, Dr. Spertus worked with the Miami VA as the Chief Clinician Well-Being Officer (CWO), focusing his efforts on systemic approaches to clinician well-being and burnout mitigation. In addition to his CWO role, he was a consultant physician in Whole Health for Pain Medicine and implemented a clinic focusing on holistic, non-pharmacologic approaches to pain. Prior to that, he was an integrative primary care physician and medical director at the Marino Center for Integrative Health, and an Instructor at Harvard Medical School.
Currently, Dr. Spertus is in private practice (SpertusMD, PLLC) focusing on integrative and mind-body-spirit medicine to help people reconnect with their inner capacity to heal, navigating stress, illness, and life transitions. He provides professional coaching for clinicians experiencing burnout or career changes. He is affiliated with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and provides education. In his personal time, Dr. Spertus enjoys fitness, yoga, plant-based cooking, music, spending time with his partner and mini dachshund, and relaxing at the beach.
